The Owl of Minerva

SUBMISSION GUIDELINES

The Owl of Minerva publishes peer-reviewed articles, discussions, translations, reviews, and other material pertaining to Hegel, his predecessors, contemporaries, successors, and influences today, as well as studies that use or enter into debate with a Hegelian approach to philosophical issues. It welcomes work from any discipline that deals with Hegel's thought in a rigorous, systematic way.

The editor prefers hard copy submissions. Send one hard copy of the manuscript and an electronic copy on DVD or flash drive to:

Article manuscripts are subject to anonymous review by at least two consultants and must be prepared in a form appropriate for peer-review. The author's name and contact information should appear only on a separate title page. The body of the manuscript must not contain any information that reveals the author's identity.

Articles should be no longer than 25,000 words (approximately 100 double-spaced pages). The Owl will consider monographs whose length falls between 25,000 and 37,500 words (approximately 100-150 double-spaced pages). But the publication of monographs will depend on extraordinary circumstances, e.g. the availability of extra funds and the excellence of the manuscript, and cannot be guaranteed. Since The Owl of Minerva is an international journal, citations of sources originally written in a language other than English must refer to sections or pages in original language editions as well as to English translations. Full bibliographical information must be given for all sources. Citations must conform to the style requirements of The Chicago Manual of Style (latest edition).

The Owl will not consider a manuscript that is currently under consideration elsewhere or has been published previously, except in special circumstances and with the prior approval of the Editor.

Articles accepted for publication must be re-submitted in electronic format with double spacing throughout (including notes) and a double-spaced hard copy. Notes should be arranged as end notes at the end of the article. Abstracts should be a single paragraph limited to 150 words. The editor's preferred word processing program is Word Perfect, but the journal also accepts manuscripts in Word (docx, .doc, .rtf) and ASCII Text (.txt) formats.

Books for Review

Publishers should send review copies of relevent books to:

New Books

Authors or editors of all new books on Hegel-related topics are asked to send the Editor the following:

• the author's or editor's full name
• the full title of the book
• the place of publication
• publishing house and date of publication
• the total number of pages including those numbered in Roman numerals
• an abstract of seventy-five words or less identifying the book's research

Dissertations

Recent graduates of doctoral programs who have written dissertations focused on Hegel or Hegel-related topics are asked to send the Editor a dissertation abstract of seventy-five words or less together with the following information:

• The graduate's full name and mailing address
• The full title of the dissertation
• The name of the institution granting the Ph. D.
• The full name of the dissertation director
• The date of the oral defense

The abstract should identify the dissertation's research area, not summarize the argument.
